Hypoallergenic Jewellery FAQs

  • Hypoallergenic jewellery is designed to minimize the risk of skin irritation and allergic reactions. It’s made from materials that are less likely to cause a jewellery reaction, making it ideal for people with metal allergies or sensitive skin.

  • Allergies to jewellery are often caused by metals like nickel, which can trigger skin irritation when they come into contact with the skin. The immune system reacts to these metals as if they’re harmful, resulting in itching, redness, or a rash — known as a jewellery reaction.

  • Stainless steel is often hypoallergenic and contains little or no nickel, depending on the grade. It’s non-reactive and smooth, making it a safe choice for people prone to allergies or skin irritation from jewellery.

  • A jewellery reaction may cause redness, itchiness, swelling, or blistering — signs of skin irritation. To treat it, remove the jewellery immediately, cleanse the area with mild soap and water, and apply a soothing cream. For ongoing allergies, choose only hypoallergenic jewellery to prevent future reactions.

  • Stainless steel is resistant to tarnish, rust, and corrosion, making it highly durable, especially if submerged in water, meaning waterproof jewellery if looked after well. It doesn’t easily wear down or break, and its hypoallergenic properties help prevent skin irritation or allergies, even with long-term wear.
